By Dr. Delker, artist and engineer
The images on this site are all defined and drawn by algorithms written in computer code. The code either defines a mathematical function that determines what color to draw each pixel in the image, or it defines a set of drawing instructions for placing lines, shapes, and curves. In this way, code becomes the canvas on which the artist draws the image. No manual manipulation (Photoshop) is done, with the exception of adding a signature to the finished image.
The computer code is completely custom-written by the artist to acheive the desired effect. No commercial or other third-party graphics software is used. Much of the code was implemented in Python using the Python Imaging Library.
